We’re not threatened by proposed opposition alliance - PDP|

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday, took a look at the ongoing merger talks among the major opposition political parties and advised their leadership to shed their personal interests and sectional agenda, if they hope to make any headway in challenging the PDP in the 2015 general election.
The PDP said it was not threatened by such an alliance, since it remained the only truly national political party that is deeply committed to the continued existence of Nigeria.
In a statement entitled "We shall meet in Philippi," issued in Abujaby the national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the party, on Sunday, observed that Nigerians were capable of separating the wheat from the chaff and would know an alliance, "where vaulting personal interests will ceaselessly riot and yield no support to national stability."
Noting that the PDP had remained the symbol of national unity and progress, the statement noted that "we hear of alliance and mergers everyday. That is not new. Let us wait for 2015. The PDP is the only party that is committed to the continued existence of Nigeria and the welfare of its people.
"At the appropriate time, they will decide whether to entrust their great nation to the hands of regionalists, doomsday prophets and pro-anarchists or to the safe hands of the PDP."
The PDP said though the nation was yet to reach its destination in terms of socio-political and economic development, in the 13 years the party had spent in power, it had made significant contributions that had translated promises into tangible benefits in many respects.
The party described itself as the only political party with presencein all the electoral wards in Nigeria.
