The Osun State Government has begun the disbursement of a loan of N89.5 million to farmers to fast-track implementation of the state’s Agriculture Quick Intervention Programme.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives and Empowerment, Mr. Jayeoba Alagbada, told journalists on Friday in Osogbo that all registered farmers’ cooperative groups were expected to benefit from the loan.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Alagbada said the loan would be given only to farmers cooperative groups that had completed their registration processes, and urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of it.
The commissioner directed beneficiaries to invest the loan in cultivating plantain, maize and yam to further boost food production.
He appealed to other registered farmers cooperative groups that had yet to benefit from the facility to exercise patience, as government would extend the gesture to them.
