SENATE President, David Mark, on Monday, lamented the killing ofsix soldiers and two police officers, who were members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Damaturu, Yobe State, describing their death as shocking.
Mark, who said the action was "barbaric and inhuman," added that their death was a painful loss, as they died in active defence of their fatherland.
"They died in active defence of the people, as well as their fatherland. They will not die in vain because their acts of valour shall be etched on the conscience of our nation," he further said.
Commiserating with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejerika and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alhaji M. D. Abubakar, Mark urged them not to relent in their fightagainst Boko Haram and other forms of terrorism in the country, adding that the rank and file must also keep their obligation to the nation.
The Senate president also reiterated his call on the leaders and members of the Islamic sect to accept the dialogue option offered by the Federal Government, in order to halt the spate of senseless killing in the country, especially in the North.
