A retired deputy commissioner of police with the Air
wing of the Nigeria Police, Pullen Agbonifor, was, on
Tuesday, killed by gunmen suspected to be hired
assassins in Lagos.
Agbonifor was shot on Tuesday around 9.00 a.m. by
a four–man gang, who invaded his Idimu Egbeda,
Unity Estate home.
The killers reportedly took advantage of the
deceased's driver's attempt to drive into his
compound to perpetrate the act.
Policemen from Idimu divisional police station
arrived on the scene, after one of the sons of the
deceased sneaked out to report the incident at the
police station.
A source, who pleaded anonymity, informed the
Nigerian Tribune that the gunmen followed the
driver of the deceased into the compound and
threatened everybody there.
"What we were told was that the attackers asked for
the whereabout of the retired policeman and having
found him, they shot him and escaped before
policemen came," the source said.
He also said that the gunshots from the gunmen
caused panic among residents of the estate, who
thought they were armed robbers.
The image maker in charge of the state police
command, Ngozi Braise, confirmed the incident,
adding that the police had begun investigations into
the incident.
The Lagos police imagemaker stated that the police
were contacted after one of the sons of the slain
retired policeman sneaked out and reported at the
nearest police station.
She also claimed that police arrived on the scene,
immediately the incident was reported and that the
assassins left the scene after shooting their target.
