Calls for Jonathan’s resignation unnecessary –MOSOP

The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People has described the increasing call for President Goodluck Jonathan’s resignation as unnecessary.
The Chairman, Provisional Council of MOSOP, Prof. Ben Naanen, explained that his position on the issue did not mean that the people of Ogoni were satisfied with recent developments in the country.
Naanen argued that the pressure mounted on the President by Nigerians was enough for him (Jonathan) to show more commitment to matters affecting the country.
He suggested that Jonathan should re-examine his strategies and get his administration’s decisions towards national growth right.
“I don’t think he should resign. By saying that he should not resign does not mean that we are satisfied with what is going on.
“What we advise is that he should show more commitment to solving some of the problems facing the country. He should re-examine his strategies,” the MOSOP provisional council chairman stressed.
Naanen pointed out that the call for the resignation of the President could not be easily wished away, describing the development as a wake-up call to Jonathan.
He, however, refused to rule out the petty politics in the increasing call for Jonathan to leave office, saying, “When politics is on the ground, objectivity takes flight.”
