Kefee To Release Double-Disc Album

Branama queen Kefee is set to release her fourth LP, a double-disc album in October 2012.

The gospel singer who has been releasing a number of singles since the past year is now ready to unleash the double disc LP tilted Chorus Leader and Beautiful. It was gathered that the albums will be individually themed.

Chorus Leader according to Kefee, will reflect more of the gospel side of her music. We're told the title was inspired by her days in the church as a member of the choir where she was a chorus leader.

Beautiful on the other hand contains love songs – Kefee says the album's title track was inspired by her husband, Don Momoh.

The album in general will feature the likes of Duncan Mighty, Ghanaian singer Becca, rapper Skales , Jahborn, Lami, Eben and others.

The first CD will be released be in the first week of October while the second would follow a month later.

Kefee broke into the music industry with her first album, Branama. A second album, Branama 2, followed but it was her third album, 'A Piece of Me', which had smash hit, 'Kokoroko', featuring Timaya that got her the deserved recognition.

She remarried earlier this year to the popular radio personality, Don 'Ted Esosa' Momoh, after her marriage to producer, Alec Godwin, collapsed a few years back.

Federal roads’ ll be fixed in 2013

The Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, has said that some federal roads will be fixed in 2013.
The minister said this while introducing Project Safe Passage during a meeting with Federal Government road project contractors across the country.
He said the essence of the new initiative was to ensure that by Dec.2012, Nigerians had good road corridors devoid of potholes, thus promoting safe motoring on federal roads.
The minister’s strategy for realising the Project Safe Passage requires contractors and FERMA to fix all sections of roads that had failed or had pot-holes before proceeding with the other contracts.
“In other words, Project Safe Passage would be considered as a contingency for failed sections of road alignments. Federal roads without subsisting contracts will be taken over by FERMA through its direct labour scheme for the implementation of Project Safe Passage,” the statement said.

Security guard, houseboy arrested for robbing employer

Eze and Uzor
Sunday Eze thought he had struck a goldmine when he learned that his posting had been changed. His employers, a private security firm, had asked him to report to a certain address at Omole Estate Phase II in the Ikeja area of Lagos. He was supposed to work there as a security guard.
By all means, Eze’s new boss, Dayo Famoroti, was a wealthy man. He lived with his family in his own home with a retinue of domestic staff at his beck and call.
Eze, who had served a jail term at the Oba Prison in Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State, for buying a stolen generator, believed his boss was very rich.
For five days, he studied Famoroti and the environment. On the sixth day, he persuaded another servant named Obinna Uzor to join him in robbing their boss of some of his belongings.

Day robbers laid siege to Lagos

Corpses of two of the policemen killed during the attacks, in a police van
The relative peace and calm enjoyed by the residents of Lagos was rudely shattered by simultaneous robbery attacks in different parts of the city, which resulted in the loss of lives and property on Sunday, September 9, 2012.
On that day, the criminals operated in a manner that seemed as if the attacks were coordinated, targeting and killing policemen, as well as robbing several  bureau de change outlets, and fast food restaurants on the Lagos Mainland.
Residents living in the Agege, Anthony village, Ojodu, Ogba, Itire, Gbagada, Ilasamaja, and Ikeja areas of the metropolis were practically held hostage as not less than 12 robbers, armed with sophisticated weapons,  reportedly attacked some bureau de change operators.
By the time the attacks, which altogether lasted about two hours, were over, motorists, roadside vendors and other businesses had been forced to part with cash and other valuable items. Three policemen and one civilian were dead, while many others, including an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority,  were wounded.

Monarch blames massive flooding on Boko Haram

AS MASSIVE flooding continues to devastate some parts of Nigeria, especially the Northern parts, a traditional ruler in Abia state has predicted that more massive flooding would torment the North because according to him, God is very angry with the activities of the Islamic Sect, Boko Haram whose members have been killing and maiming innocent people, especially Christians.
The traditional ruler, Eze Henry Ezekwem of Emede Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Council, God’s anger is upon Boko Haram members who go to churches to kill Christians as well as in the mosque to kill people who worship their God.
According to Ezekwem who is also the chairman of Ibeku Traditional Rulers Council, unless the Boko Haram members stop gruesome killing of innocent worshippers in churches and mosques, the wrath of God would still come in more devastating way.
He attributed the massive flooding which has been killing and sacking hundreds of families which has been more in the Northern parts to God’s anger against the evils being committed by the Boko Haram members.
Ezekwem called on prominent Northern leaders to intervene by calling these hoodlums to embrace dialogue so as to escape the enraging wrath of God, warning that if they don’t change more aggressive harm awaits them.

The 26-year-old student of the Accountancy Department was shot in her room around 3.00 a.m. while praying for her final examinations.

The robbers, numbering about 25, were said to have stormed Kola Oyewuwo Fodacis area, on Adeoyo Hospital road, Ibadan and raided several houses.

An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that the deceased was studying in her apartment when the robbers attacked her.

According to the eyewitness, the robbers thought the deceased was trying to catch a glimpse of the situation when they shot her.

She was said to have been hit by the bullet, which killed her.

When contacted, the acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Daniel Oboyi, confirmed the incident and said investigation was going on.

He said that policemen were contacted by a neighbour, but did not give adequate information on the particular area.

He disclosed that before the patrol team got to the exact area, the suspected armed robbers had escaped.

"Policemen were at the area, but did not know the exact area where the robbers were operating," he said.

He urged the people of the state to always give the police adequate and genuine information that could lead to stem the activities of armed robbers in the state.

We’ll not secede, Ogoni leaders tell Jonathan

LEADERS of the Ogoni people in Rivers State have dissociated themselves from the recent declaration of independence by elements of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), saying that they are committed to the unity of the country.

A delegation of the leaders, which included traditional rulers, political office holders, members of the academia, among others, led by Senator Magnus Abe, met with President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday, in State House, Abuja, where they presented a position paper to him.

The meeting was a reaction to the declaration of political autonomy for Ogoni people in August by a factional president of MOSOP, Dr Goodluck Diigbo.

But, according to Senator Abe, Ogoni people remained committed to the unity and continued existence of Nigeria, which, he said, has the potentials of a great nation and neeeds support.

According to him, "though Ogoni has always supported the call for devolution of power to local entities to reflect true federalism, upon which the Nigerian nationhood is anchored, we wish to assure you Mr President and indeed, assure the Nigerian people that Ogoni remains committed to the unity of the Nigerian state and that we are with Nigeria, which is contrary to recent media report on Ogoni.

"We are also asking for the economic and social integration of the Ogoni people through special development initiatives."

Abe, who spoke to State House corespondents after the meeting with the president, observed that Ogoni people identified with President Jonathan's efforts to provide good leadership and his commitment to overcome the various challenges facing the country, including security.

Speaking on their mission to State House, the lawmaker said it was necessary to point out the concerns of the people to the president, especially the length of time it had taken to commence the implementation of the report of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on the Ogoniland.

He stressed the need for the full implementation of the report and for the $1billion recommended to wholly utilised in the area.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, who also spoke to State House correspondents on issues raised during the meeting, noted that the president assured members of the delegation that his government was working on the issues they had raised.

Following the expiration of his term at AfDB, he returned to the CBN in 1973 as an adviser and later rose to the position of a deputy governor in 1975.

In recognition of his contributions to the development of the economy, Vincent was named a Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) in 1982.

Reacting to his death, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) said he was a role model, whose support for the institute and the profession could not be quantified.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on telephone, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the institute, Dr 'Uju Ogubunka, described Ola Vincent as "an elder stateman and a distinguished banker of note."

Also, a retiree of the CBN, Chief Timothy Ukegheson, who was at the CBN when Vincent was governor, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on telephone, confirmed that Ola Vincent could better be remembered for promoting the interest of bank depositors.

At the time of going to press, CBN was yet to react officially to the death, but the workers at the Lagos office annex described him as an accomplished banker in all ramifications.
