THE immediate past Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian
National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC), Mr Austin Oniwon, has said his
removal from office will not in any way retard the progress made so far
by the present administration in petroleum sector.
According to him, the new GMD, Mr Andrew Yakubu, shared the same idea
and vision with him, which was to reposition the petroleum sector for
optimum productivity.
Oniwon, who gave the indication at the weekend, during an interactive
session organised by Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman, in Abuja, noted
that it was the desire of the President Goodluck Jonathan-led
administration to evenly develop the country, in line with his
transformation agenda.
He, therefore, called on the people, particularly members of the
National Assembly, to give the president the needed support, in order to
deliver the much-anticipated dividends to Nigerians.
He added that the government decided to build refinery at Ubogiri in
Kobi State, because of the consumption of petroleum products in the
areas, particularly the proximity of Kogi to the Federal Capital
Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Oniwon said all necce-ssary arrangements, including financing, had
been concluded between the government and the Chinese investors, while
he assured that the projects would soon commence.
Earlier, Senator Abatemi-Usman had said the session was for the
people to exchange ideas and find a new course for Kogi Central
senatorial district.
