Forty-five workers in the Ekiti State local government
system are now in soup, following allegations that
they are now in higher positions in the service which
they do not merit.
The state Local Government Service Commission
(LGSC) told newsmen at the weekend that it would
take "necessary punitive measure" against the 45
officials of the local governments, saying they were
"wrongly promoted to higher and unmerited
positions under the past administrations."
Chairman of the commission, Mr Aderemi Ajayi, who
made this known, alleged that the indicted council
workers were shady in the course of their career
progression, saying they were now in positions they
were not qualified to hold based on the certificates
they possessed.
Ajayi said: "It was so embarrassing that these
workers, most of whom were school certificate
holders, who ordinarily should not be promoted
beyond Level 07 going by the scheme of service,
wriggled their ways to Level 14.
"Some among them even manipulated two cadres,
junketing between the stores and accounting cadres,
just to ensure that they got a basis for promotion
beyond the statutorily recognised Level 07, and no
government will tolerate this absurdity.
"The immediate past government detected all these
absurdities, but lacked the political will to effect the
needed change as a way of restructuring the local
governments in the state."
In a related development, the chairman of Oye Local
Government area of the state, Mr Adewale Adekoya,
has been suspended for spending above the
N500,000 maximum approved for council chairmen
in the state.
