Bombing of station: Police recover bodies of suspected robbers

THE Kogi State police command has recovered two
corpses suspected to be remains of members of a
robbery gang that bombed a police divisional
headquarter and Unity Bank in Iyara, Ijumu Local
Government Area of the state recently.
The police has also arrested a suspected member of
the said gang through the help of the community.
The suspect, simply identified as an Ebira man, was
arrested by some hunters, who saw him running bare
footed trying to mount an abandoned motorcycle.
The corpses were reportedly found in a bush along a
road leading to Ekiti State.
According to the state Commissioner of Police,
Mohammed Katsina, who confirmed the arrest to
newsmen on Monday, the suspect was making useful
confessions which might lead to the arrest of other
members of the gang.
He stated that "the armed robbers have now adopted
new tactics. They no longer use guns alone, they also
use locally made grenade to wreak havoc.
"Their aim of bombing the station was to destabilise
my men and cart away arms, but they did not
succeed in any of their missions, as my men attacked
them.''
At Unity Bank, the robbers were said to have brought
down the entire building, but the police boss
cofirmed that the robbers did not gain access to the
bank's vault.
"We had special forces meant to confront the
bombers. We matched them gun with gun. With the
help of tear gas, we were able to chase them into the
bush. And we want to assure the general public that
investigation is on to arrest the robbers," he said.
