Arunma Oteh resumes amid tight security •Holdsmeeting with top management staff

THE embattled Director-General of the Securities and
Exchange Commission (SEC), Ms Arunma Oteh,
resumed duty on Monday, as she braved the
circumstances surrounding hêr recall.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that on her arrival, she was
received by the directors of the commission with
soldiers on guard at the entrance.
Oteh, who source stated did not betray any anxiety,
was later said to have held closed door meeting with
top management staff.
Though details of the meeting was not disclosed, the
Nigerian Tribune gathered that Oteh was believed to
have held olive branch to the top staffers and
admonish them to support her in the interest of the
capital market.
Despite the hard stance of the SEC staff, the Nigerian
Tribune learnt that the workers did not exhibit any
trait of violence when the SEC DG entered the
premises.
However, the gentle mien of the staff was, according
to SEC source, attributed to the visit on Friday to SEC
headquarters by the Cordinating Minister for the
Economy and the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi
Okonjo-Iweala, who, the source said, appealed to the
staff to accept the decision of the Federal
Government to recall Oteh back from leave.
The workers, through their union, the Amalgamated
Union of Corporate Organisations, on Wednesday,
had demonstrated for over an hour outside the SEC
premises in Abuja, against the reinstatement of
Oteh.
The workers, who said they were not against the
decision to reinstate her, had insisted that they
would only welcome her back after the House of
Representatives had cleared her of the allegations
against her.
