The
Independent National Electoral Commission says it has deployed adequate
electoral materials for about 1.6 million registered voters expected to
cast their ballot in the Edo State governorship election on Saturday
(today).
The Director of Information, INEC, Mr.
Emmanuel Umenger, told our correspondent on the telephone, “The issue of
insufficient electoral materials will not arise. We have provided both
the sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials needed for the
election. We have also deployed all the necessary tools needed for a
successful exercise.”
He said an Inter-agencies Consultative
Committee had assured that there would be safety of lives and property
during today’s election.
Umenger said, “INEC has put in place
measures to ensure a hitch-free exercise. The security committee was
formed in the 2011 elections and it was very effective. The synergy was
responsible for the effectiveness of the security put in place
“The committee has said the people of
Edo should be rest assured that the election will be violence-free. It
said it mobilised all the partnering security agencies to protect the
voters and their votes.”
