We are ready for any team – Keshi

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has said that the team is ready to take on any country as the draw for the second round for the 2013 Africa Nations Cup holds in South Africa on Thursday. Keshi who is billed to leave for the draw venue today told The PUNCH that any team working very hard should not be worried about who to play.
He said, “Bring any team; why should we be thinking of who could be better or easier to play. Any team is okay for us. The draw is for us to know who is next but I doubt I would exercise the right to choose if given that chance. We are looking at every team in the competition equally; why do we have to imagine that one team can be easier than another?”
Former champions Egypt were eliminated last weekend by Central African Republic – a country hardly any follower of the game gave any chance to succeed but Keshi said such development cannot be a source of concern to the Eagles.
“The truth is that there is no small team anymore and that was why I said anything is okay with us. If we plan for a game for a year and somebody strolls into camp a week to the game, we are most likely going to win the match. We have played all levels of opposition on the continent and the competition was stiff in all cases so one team failing should not create any panic.
“We don’t have a complete team yet as we are very deep in the building process. We are searching for more players and trying out everyone. At the right time one can say we are very ready. We are proud of what we have and how they have responded so far.”
Meanwhile, Nigeria star Joel Obi has returned to training after several weeks on the sidelines due to injury, his Italian club Inter Milan announced.
Obi, who missed the Eagles qualifiers in June due to the muscle injury, trained on his own on Monday under the guidance of Inter Milan’s head of medical, Professor Franco Combi, and he is expected to be fully fit later this month.
The Inter youngster got his breakthrough three seasons ago under coach Jose Mourinho, who threw him into the fray.
The midfielder played 27 games with 11 starts last season.
He is now looking forward to play a bigger role in Inter in the coming season.
