Ibadan masquerade Oloolu attacked, custodian killed

IBADAN masquerade, Oloolu, was, on Tuesday, attacked at Gbodu junction, Popo-Yemoja, Ibadan, when he stormed the area where a fidau was being held in honour of a late chief Imam, Rafiu Fasasi, a.k.a Lorisirisi, who died last week.
According to eye witnesses, apart from the fidau of the late Imam, there was another ceremony going on at Popoyemoja, which prompted the residents to persuade the masquerade not to pass through the area.
Nigerian Trbune learnt that Oloolu insited on passing through the place, maintaining that he wanted to pay homage to one of the traditional title holders in the area, popularly known as Kunmi.
That insistence, it was learnt, angered the residents, who, it was also gathered by the Nigerian Tribune, attacked the custodian, popularly called Ato, while Oloolu made his way to the chief's residence.
The custodian was said to have been matcheted badly before he was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Ibadan, where he gave up the ghost.
An uncofirmed report also had it that the Oloolu himself was partially beaten.
On Wednesday morning, Nigerian Tribune gathered that men of the state police command came to the area on surveillance, beacuse the
masquerade was to pay homage to another Ibadan high chief, Chief Adetunji.
When the Nigerian Tribune contacted the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bisi Ilobanafor, said the Oloolu was injured on his head, while his costume was removed from him and given to another person.
The PPRO said it took the intervention of Mapo divisional police officer (DPO) to rescue the Oloolu.
The image maker said four of the attackers were arrested and had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),
Iyaganku, for investigation.
