The Chief Imam of Borno, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmad, is dead.
He was 90 years.
The Special Adviser on Communication to Governor Kashim Shettima, Malam Isa Gusau, disclosed this in a statement in Maiduguri on Thursday.
According to the statement, the Chief Imam died on Wednesday at a private hospital in Cairo, Egypt, after a protracted illness.
“Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno, on behalf of the state government and his family, joins citizens of Borno to mourn the death of the state’s Chief Imam, Ibrahim Ahmad, who died after a protracted illness at the age of 90 years.
“Shettima described the late Chief Imam as one of the very strong pillars of Borno, whose demise will be greatly missed.
“He will be greatly missed because the death came at a time when the state is facing challenges that require the prayers and leadership guidance of great men like him,” the News Agency of Nigeria quoted the governor’s aide as saying in the statement.
