The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for the sack of the
Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido
Sanusi, for asking that the Federal Government to reduce 50 per
cent of civil servants as part of efforts to revive the economy.
The call was contained in a statement issued by the NLC President
Abdulwahed Omar, in Abuja.
The CBN Governor had on Tuesday advocated a less expensive
system of government that would reduce overhead costs during the
Annual Capital Market Retreat in Warri, Delta State,
NLC described Sanusi’s statement as a contradiction of President
Goodluck Jonathan’s promise to create more jobs and reduce the
high rate of unemployment in the country.
According the NLC, Sanusi’s only understanding of governance is
simply about saving money and not saving lives noting that his
proposals are repeatedly devoid of human content and without
consideration for the implications on the larger society.
The NLC added that Nigeria’s economic problems are not caused
by its workforce, but by corruption and lack of good governance,
both of which would continue to affect the economy unless
effectively tackled.
The statement noted that Governance is about improving the
quality of lives of the people and not destruction of productive lives,
adding that the CBN governor’s call for the scrapping of the local
governments shows that he is not fit for public office.
Sanusi is a fool,he doesn't feel the pains because he is already rich. Am a graduate after my NYSC I have been unemployed, why would 50percent of Civil servants feel such Dilema,I think †ђξ reduction should start from him being sacked
