How to give your parents money

Most established parents don’t think that their children should be supporting them in their old age. Others, however, think it is a child’s duty to support his or her parents when they are going old. For the parents who don’t want your money, there are several ways to quietly give them money through the backdoor. Giving money through the backdoor is giving a person the thing that the money will buy, as explained in the steps below:

Show up with provisions

Comfortable parents will hardly request for money from their children. But it is important to always show appreciation to your parents and knowing they will not accept money from you, you should use money and get them what they will accept. This is always an easy way to free up other money that they need. If you are buying the groceries, they can spend the grocery money on the bills. Be careful to just do it once and a while or they will catch on to what you are doing. Children should appreciate their parents for this is right.

Pay down a bill for them

Many older adults live on fixed incomes. This income allows little wiggle room in the finance department. Pay down some of the credit or pay the electric bill of your parents for a few months in advance. Pick up the bill and mail it in for them as a surprise package or it may not necessarily be a form of surprise. But just make sure you do something soothing to them. They may follow up on it with the company, but the company will say that it was paid and they will appreciate that it was paid.

Offer to pick up their medications

Older adults tend to take ill often. They need medical attention than younger adults, hence it is the duty of a child to cater for his parents by getting them their medications or assigning someone to do the job. If you go to the pharmacy and get the medication, you can also pay for it. If you pay for it, then you have freed up money for your parents to use elsewhere. This will go a long way in helping out solve some issues requiring financial attention.

Pay for items when driving with them

Offer to pay for things when you are running around town with your parents. If you go out to eat, offer to pay for it. If you take them on Christmas shopping, offer to pay for it. They may not let you at first, but be persistent. Eventually they will give in so as to not offend you. This is a form of healing and making them realise you appreciate them and as well increasing their personal finances.

Send money or gift cards for holidays

Of course comfortable parents may not want cash from their children, it is not bad sending them money, experts say. If the premise is that it is a gift, then they won’t return it to you. Take the backdoor into your parents’ life and bless them as they have blessed you for this is something that makes them happy and renew their energy to see you around.
