The FRSC boss told newsmen that one of the survivors confirmed that only one 21 passengers including the driver were in the bus.

He attributed the cause of the accident to over-speeding.

Seidu said: “It is a clear case of over speeding on the part of the driver of the bus. If you look at the distance from which  the bus ran into the river which is about a kilometer away, it shows that the driver was on a terriblly high speed.

“It clearly shows that the driver was on a suicide mission. Although we don’t know the actually number of people in the bus but, one of the survivors said they were 21 in number.

“In all we were able to recover 12 bodies and rescued three“.

NEMA information officer in the South West, Zone 2, Ibrahim Farinloye, said the agency would commence  search and rescue operation of the remaining bodies in the river.

He added that the agency could not ascertain the number of the people in the bus, because the passenger manifest was not found in it.

“For now, nobody can ascertain the number of people inside the bus because passenger manifest was not found inside the bus but so far we were able to recover 12 bodies.

“And this is the first phase of the operation; the second phase which is going to start soon will be search and rescue operation for the rest of the bodies.

“With what we have seen, it clear that it is not an 18-seater bus but we will get to the park where the bus loaded to get the manifest to ascertain the actual figure of people involved,“ he said.

The Ijebu Zonal Commander of TRACE  Mr Tommy Hamzat, also  attributed overspeeding as the cause of the accident.
