President Goodluck Jonathan has reiterated the Federal Government's commitment to forestal future occurrence of flood in the country.
The president gave the assurance in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Wednesday when he visited displaced persons at the Wadatta camp.
He explained that the Federal Government would work with state governments and other relevant agencies to ameliorate the effects of the flood, adding that government would also ensure the construction of dams in some places.
While acknowledging the effect of the flood on farms, the president promised that government would, next week, release funds to ministry of agriculture to be able to procure varied seedlings for farmers, just as he expressed optimism that the calamity would eventually turn to blessing.
According to him, 'my visit is to re assure you that Federal Government will work with state governments and others to see how we can ameliorate the effect of the flood."
Meanwhile, OVER 1,000 families affected by flood in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State have not been reached by officials of local government, state or National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The flood victims, whose condition is yet to be ascertained but is believed to be precarious, are in four villages.
The secretary of Ringim Local Government Area, Alhaji Ismaila Isa, made the revelation while speaking with journalists shortly after receiving another set of relief materials from NEMA for distribution to flood victims.
He said the villages yet to be reached, which are situated in difficult terrains, are Dusukur, Tanti, Ibom and Waron dudun.
According to him, the council had purchased canoes and plans are underway to reach out to the people.
