Keshi Blasts Referee For Eagles’ Fall

BRASÍLIA (AFP) – Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi hit out at American referee Mark Geiger after his side lost 2-0 to France in the World Cup last 16 in Brasilia on Monday.

“The referee is a human being and is bound to make mistakes, but a lot of mistakes is questionable,” Keshi told his post-match press conference at the Mane Garrincha National Stadium. “I’m not happy with the officiating.” Stephen Keshi

Keshi was aggrieved that Emmanuel Emenike had a first-half goal ruled out for offside, although replays suggested the call was correct, and also felt France had been allowed to get away with some over-zealous tackling. Blaise Matuidi was only booked for an ugly challenge on Ogenyi Onazi that ended the Nigerian midfielder’s game, while Olivier Giroud escaped punishment after catching John Mikel Obi with his elbow.

“On two occasions Onazi received very bad tackles and nothing was done about it. He is out now probably for weeks,” Keshi added.

“This is the first time I’ve spoken about the referee in my life, because it wasn’t good.”

France prevailed through a 79th-minute Paul Pogba header and an injury-time own goal by Joseph Yobo, and will face either Germany or Algeria in the quarter-finals.

The 2014 BET Awards took place on Sunday, with Beyonce going home with the most awards.

Queen Bey won 3 awards on the night including Best Female R&B/Pop Singer.

Pharrell Williams & new boy on the block August Alsina also went home with 2 awards apiece.

It was an entertaining night, with Kevin Hart being his usual self parodying Scandal with Kerry Washington, while Nicki Minaj threw some shade at Iggy Azalea during her acceptance speech.

GOBE! Super Eagles Cancel Training Due To Unpaid Bonuses

It is reported that the Super Eagles did not train on Thursday when a meeting over their bonuses ended in a deadlock.

Nigeria was scheduled to train in Campinas at 6pm on Thursday, but the squad failed to board the bus.

The Media Officer Ben Alaiya explained that the squad would leave for training later, as they were having a meeting, but one hour later, officials cancelled the training session.

 According to sources, the players demanded to be paid their bonuses for making it past the group stages during the meeting.

However, NFF General Secretary Musa Amadu, was in Sao Paulo at the time of these events, apparently to get more money for the next round.

A NFF official told KickOffNigeria that “funds were only released for the group stages, so he has gone to get more for the second round.”

It is not yet certain if the African champions will travel to Brasilia for their round of 16 clash against France, as Amadu is unlikely to return before Monday.

100 victims of Kaduna attack gets Mass burial

100 men, women and children who died in the June 23rd and 24th ethnic clash that happened in Sanga LGA in Southern Kaduna, Kaduna state were yesterday June 26th given a mass burial in a parcel of land between Gwantu Kurmi and Kobin in the Local government.

According to the Chairman of the Sanga LGA, Mr Emmanuel Adamu, they had to resort to a mass burial because the bodies of the victims were beginning to decompose due to the poor facilities at the UNIJOS Morgue.

"We had no choice, because their corpses were decomposing as a result of poor facilities at the hospitals. However, not all the dead were given mass burial. Some families were able to identify their loved ones, so they were allowed to take the bodies away. I cannot give the number of bodies taken away by families. All those that are injured will be treated by Sanga Local Government free of charge. Normalcy has returned with the beefing up of security in the area. I want to appeal to all the people of Sanga to please forgive and leave vengeance to Almighty God. I beg everyone to remain law abiding, but vigilant.” he said

On Wednesday June 25th, the chairman of the Local Government declared a 24hr curfew in the area.

Tiwa Savage, Ice Prince to perform at BET Awards 2014

Organizers of the BET Awards 2014 have announced Nigerian stars Tiwa Savage and Ice Prince Zamani as performers for the glamorous event.

Two other African acts SA’s Mafikizolo and Ghana’s Sarkodie will join the songstress and rapper.

They will all take part of the ‘Music Around the Globe’ presentation. This is the first time international acts have performed as part of the BET Experience at L.A. LIVE since the introduction of international BET Award categories, ‘Best International Act: Africa’ and ‘Best International Act: UK’ in 2010.

Other performers already announced include K. Michelle, Mack Wilds, Mary J. Blige, Trey Songz and Jennifer Hudson. Chris Rock will host the June 29 event, which will air, live on July 1, 2014.
