Four Die In Lagos Abeokuta Expressway Accident

No fewer than four persons were confirmed dead and 18 others critically injured in an auto crash which occurred on Wednesday at railwaycrossing area of Ifo along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway.
The accident, which occurred at about 3.0pm, involved an 18-seater white Mazda passenger bus marked LAGOS KTU 554 XH and a DAF truck marked LAGOS AAA 932 XC.

An eye witness said that the Lagos-bound passenger bus was on top speed from Abeokuta when it rammed into the DAF truck which was attempting to make a U-Turn at the “Oju Irin” point of the railway crossing.

The Itori Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Fatai Bakare, confirmed the accident and stressed that 22 persons were involved in the crash.

Bakare attributed the cause of the accident to “loss of control on the part of the trailer driver”.

The FRSC boss, however, said that the 18 injured passengers were on danger list as doctors and other medical personnel at Ifo General Hospital were still battling to save their lives as at the time of filling this report.

He added the bodies of the dead had been deposited at the morgue of the hospital.
