Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on Monday said every step taken by his administration on Lagos State University was to transform and make it one of the best higher institutions in the world.
Fashola spoke during the inauguration of the school’s Governing Council at Lagos House, Ikeja.
The governor expressed optimism that the new council would consolidate on the achievements on the ground and move the institution to greater height.
He said, “The government has taken a number of steps lately to transform the university. The aim is to make the institution one of the best in the world.
“The new council must help actualise this dream by coming up with novel ideas that could further turn the institution around and make it realise its full potential.
“We have come quite a distance at LASU- from LASUTH that is waxing stronger by the day and the Faculty of Law that is reclaiming its pre-eminent position among other achievements.
“This is no doubt a new team of thinkers and I urge you to turn the rainbow of bright colours created by the former governing council to something brighter and better in line with the dream of our founding fathers.”
The Chairman of the council, Bode Agosto, urged the government to invest more in ICT and other learning facilities. He added that more research grants for lecturers would boost their capacity and productivity.
