Man bags 9 months for stealing motorcycle

A Kubwa Upper Area Court on Tuesday sentenced Bashir Umar , 22, to nine months imprisonment for stealing a Boxer brand of motorcycle valued at N111 000.

The Presiding Judge, Malam Munir Lawal, however, gave the convict an option to pay N3 000 fine. Lawal said he gave the convict an option of fine because he had no record of past conviction and so deserved some leniency.

He admonished the convict to henceforth be of good conduct. Earlier, Police prosecutor Arziki Kaura had told the court that the matter was reported by one Murtala Garba, a resident of Dutse-Alhaji village, Abuja, on Jan. 3.

Kaura said that during investigation, the motorcycle was recovered from the convict at Suleja, Niger. He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
