9 injured in Bauchi bomb blast

Bauchi – GUNMEN on Sunday detonated an explosive in an uncompleted building in Bayan Gari at Tudun Wadan dan Iya in Bauchi State, leaving nine people injured.
Vanguard gathered that the blast which was the second in the area in recent times, occurred where there were many hotels, brothels and other relaxation centres.

Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Ladan, who confirmed the incident to newsmen said some hoodlums detonated an explosive in an uncompleted building in Bayan Gari, where the victims were injured.
He added that those injured were rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH, for treatment.
Other security sources, however, said no death was recorded during the incident even as those affected were said to have sustained injuries when they tried to escape from the scene of the blast. Policemen had in the past, allegedly raided the empty building severally and arrested Indian Hemp smokers there.
An eyewitnesses who spoke to Vanguard on  condition of anonymity said:  “We were dancing in a nearby hotel when all of a sudden, we heard a loud bang. The sound was deafening and it shattered the glasses of our cars, which led us to scamper for safety.
“When soldiers came to our rescue, I counted 10 people injured. God saved us as nothing happened to some of us.”
Meanwhile, security was beefed up in the state Sunday to prevent attacks on churches.
