Under President Goodluck Jonathan, the Federal Government has borrowed a total of N2.57tn.

Thus, the Federal Government’s debt profile rose from N4.18tn as of June 30, 2010 to N6.75tn as of June 30, 2012.

Jonathan was sworn in as Nigeria’s Acting President on February 10, 2010 following the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua and was later sworn in as the elected president on May 29, 2011.

Records obtained from the Debt Management Office showed that four months after Jonathan became Acting President, the total debt profile stood at N4.18tn (as at June 30, 2010).

However, by June 30, 2012; the debt profile had ballooned to N6.75tn.

This shows that within a period of 24 months or two years, the Federal Government debt profile rose by 61.48 per cent.

Analysis of the debt increment between June 30, 2010 and June 30, 2012 shows that the Federal Government borrowed an average of N107.08bn every month for 24 months or a total of N1.285tn per annum.

If the increment in debt profile is subjected to daily analysis, the Federal Government borrowed N3.52bn every day for a period of two years.

This debt profile is exclusive of the nation’s total debt portfolio as it is more difficult to determine the total indebtedness of the subnational government – the state and local governments.

Ojukwu’s firm rejects Bianca as director

A Director of Ojukwu Transport Company Limited has said the wife of the late Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu-Ojukwu, Bianca, has no place on the directorship or trusteeship of the company.

Director, Mr. Ifeukwu Ojukwu, said on Monday that since OTL was owned by the late Sir Louis Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the late Biafran warlord could not dictate who the trustees or directors of the company should be.

Ojukwu, who was the Ikemba of Nnewi, had directed, in his Will, that Bianca, should replace him as a trustee of OTL.

Ifeukwu said, “Bianca is neither a trustee member nor a Director of OTL and it is good to note that OTL is a different property from the things the late Ikemba Ojukwu had and the directorship cannot be transferred through a Will.”

2 crippled women in court over alleged husband-snatching

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the case first came up for hearing on Nov. 28.
Yunusa had alleged that her colleague, Musa who resides at Karmajiji village, Airport road, Abuja was dating her husband.
Musa, a widow also prayed the court to compel the defendant to desist from carrying out her threat as well as pay her the sum of N200,000 as damages for defaming her and her daughter.

Musa said that the defendant on Nov. 21, came to her house, armed with a knife and cutlass, accused both her and her daughter of having an affair with Yunusa’s  husband.

Musa also said that the defendant then threatened to kill the two of them, burn their house and harm them if they did not stop ‘seeing’ her husband.

Yunusa, however, denied all the allegations brought against her by Musa when asked by the judge to comment on the accusations against her.

At the resumed hearing on Monday, Yunusa told the court that a meeting was held at the weekend at Karmajiji village and was attended by the chief and some elders to settle the dispute.
She said that they were advised to go to court and request for the withdrawal of the matter so that it would be settled out of court.

Collapse saga at Edo Tribunal: Odubu threatens to sue Airhiavbere

DEPUTY Governor of Edo State, Dr Pius Odubu, has demanded a retraction and an apology from the campaign organization of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the recent election in the state, Gen. Charles Airhiavbere, and one Osaze Jesuorobo, over an allegation that a man, who collapsed at a sitting of the Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, was a native doctor brought by the deputy governor to perform voodoo or he will institute N100milllion suit against them.

A letter by Odubu’s lawyer, Ken Mozia (SAN), said the statement in question was “actuated by base and inappropriate political motives in view of the on-going election petition initiated and currently being heard at the said Election Tribunal.”

The campaign organization of Airhiavbere had, in a statement signed by Osaze Jesuorob, identified the man who slumped at the tribunal as Israel Odaro from Urhomehe, the same village with the deputy governor, and added that the man was a native doctor.

The statement added that the said Odaro died after the incident at the court. But the victim, who spoke to journalists at the Central Hospital, Benin City, where he was being attended to, gave his name as Israel Eyinmosan, an Itsekiri from Delta State and disclosed that he was an epileptic patient since 1984 and was never a native doctor. He also expressed shock over the claim that he was dead.

Ojukwu’s Will tears family apart

Widow of late Biaf-ran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odu-megwu Ojukwu, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, and her children were said to have been more favoured than their other relations in the sharing of their father’s property as Ojukwu’s Will was read at the Enugu High Court yesterday.

The Will which was expected to have brought peace to the family now wrangling over who should control the assets left behind by the late Ikemba Nnewi since his demise on November 26, last year, has however been rejected by some of the beneficiaries through Emeka Ojukwu jnr.

In rejecting the Will which was read at the High Court by the Chief Registrar, Enugu Judiciary and Probate, Mr Dennis Ekoh, Ojukwu jnr called it a ruse.

They accused Bianca and her lawyer of allegedly causing trouble with the issue.

’’What I have to say about the Will is my position on it. It is Bianca and the lawyer that are doing what they are doing. We are waiting for the Will to be read; then I can make a statement on it. For the Will to be read, all of us, my brothers and all the beneficiaries would have to be present. And if the Will does not reflect the wish of my father, which we all know, we shall go to court,’’ he said.

Earlier, Bianca and her two sons had dragged Ojukwu’s brothers before the Lagos High Court over the control of Ojukwu Transport Limited’s, OTL’s, property situated at No. 29 Queen’s Drive, Ikoyi,Lagos, where Ojukwu once resided. The Will which was read by Mr. Ekoh also threw up some surprises when an ‘unknown’ name Tenny Harman was mentioned as number one among the late Ojukwu’s children.

Barman arrested after his first robbery attempt

Diminutive Oliseh Ojobo certainly cuts a picture of innocence for a 21- year-old man. The native of Delta State, who moved to Lagos two years ago, hopefully for a better life, is for the moment having his dreams on hold.

Ojobo was apprehended by security men at the Alaba International Market four weeks ago, when he accompanied two friends, Adekunle Yusuf and Tony Abose aka Old Baba, to a robbery operation. It was to be his first robbery operation.

Confessing his role in the matter to CRIME DIGEST, he said, “I lived with my uncle and I worked as a bar keeper at a hotel on Ajangbadi Road. Yusuf and Abose often came to the hotel where I worked with some other friends. They spent a lot of money on such occasions and would buy me food and drinks.
