Must Watch: Mobile Theatre Series To Debut With Ikenna Jude Okpala’s Alejo (The Guest)

The unrelenting strive by a few independent producers to rejuvenate live theatre and restore its credence as a viable tool for social reconstruction is gradually becoming a success; with the creation of various campaigns, festivals and projects dedicated to restoring the glory days of Nigerian theatre. Over the last decade, theatre enthusiasts- especially those residing in Lagos—have recorded an increasing boom in stage productions.  One year after initiating the Theatre on the Mainland Series,  Wazobia Theatre House, a performing arts company committed to the rebirth of Nigerian theatre, is, again, set to launch another project tagged: The Mobile Theatre Series.(MTS)

Mobile Theatre Series is a fresh campaign that aims to bridge the gap between theatre enthusiasts and location-based productions, particularly in the city of lagos. Through this unprecedented project, Wazobia Theatre House aims to, not only increase the awareness of live theatre as an education, information and entertainment option to every individual, but also to create a near-location platform to every audience.

Every two months, (starting from September 2014) The MTS crew will produce a play that will be rotated around three major divisions in lagos: Lagos island, Lagos mainland and Ikeja. MTS will help Theatre audience ease the stress of journeying long hours to production venues.

The debut edition of MTS will witness the production of ‘ALEJO’ (The Guest), a dance drama written and directed by Ikenna Jude Okpala.
