2 arraigned for allegedly damaging N5m building


Two men, Nureni Raheem, 46, and Ganiyu Amao, 58, were on Tuesday arraigned before an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’  Court for  allegedly damaging a building under construction and valued at N5 million.

The News Agency of Nigeria  (NAN) reports that the defendants were  arraigned on a  two-count charge of conspiracy and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Ogunremi, told the court that defendants conspired  to maliciously damage a four- bedroom building under construction and belonging to  one Elufisan Dare.

Ogunremi said the incident occured  on Saturday  at Asaka Arapaja area in Ibadan.

He said the offences contravened   Section 517A and 451(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The defendants, however,  pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Sofiat Oyediran granted bail to  the defendants in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

She said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendants and must reside within Ibadan Magisterial District inaddition to possession of   three years tax clearance certificate.

Oyediran, who  said the second surety must have a reasonable means of livelihood with traceable identification card, adjourned the case to Nov. 23.
