Nigerians advised to Use Road Safety to Enhance Peace and Unity

Prof. Joseph Golwa, Director-General of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution, has advised Nigerians to strive to use the roads freely with each other to enhance peace and unity.
Golwa gave the advice on Saturday in Abuja as a special guest at a jogging and walking exercise programme organised by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
``Nigerians should learn to share the roads freely with each other and not be territorial. This is because roads are for public use and nobody has more right than another to use it.
``If Nigerians can learn the simple act of sharing something as mundane as the road, it is a step forward towards working together, in ensuring peace and unity in this country,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme was organised by the FRSC as part of its contributions to promoting peace and safety in the country.
Golwa who commended the FRSC Corps Marshal for the exercise which he described as ``healthy and refreshing’’ also praised the agency for organising the programme.

``This exercise symbolises the strength and unity of the FRSC in carrying out its mandate,’’ he said.
Mr Ayo Omidiji, FRSC’s Deputy Corps Marshal (Policy, Research and Statistics), said the exercise was centred on peace and development in Nigeria.
``We are using this medium to sensitise the public to the need to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
``FRSC is not just concerned about the rules and regulations of road usage, but we are concerned about ensuring and promoting peace in this country,’’ he said.
Omidiji assured Nigerians that the safety on Nigerian roads remains FRSC’s paramount endeavour as the year heads to an end.
``FRSC is a strong advocate for peaceful co-existence between all Nigerians.
``In the course of duty, we meet one on one with the average Nigerians, and we believe we are in the right position to preach peace and unity,’’ he said
