Man bags 25 years jail term for producing fake currency

One Abdullahi Bello, who was accused of producing fake currency, has been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment by Justice Babatunde Quadri of the Federal High Court sitting in Gombe.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had slammed a five-count charge of conspiracy, dealing in and possession of counterfeit Nigerian currency on the convict.

According to the spokesperson of the anti-graft agency, the offence for which Bello was convicted, are contrary to Sections 6 (2) (b) and 4 (1) of the Counterfeit Currency (Special Provision) Act CAP C35 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The convict, who pleaded guilty to all the charges is to spend five years in jail on each count, but the sentences are to run concurrently.
