Drogba, Mikel, Katongo make African Player of the year shortlist

The Confederation of African Football (CAF ) has announced the list of 10 nominees for the African Player of the Year Award.

The shortlisted players are Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure and Gervinho, (all from Ivory Coast) Alexander Song ( Cameroun), Mikel Obi (Nigeria), Andre Ayew (Ghana), Demba Ba (Senegal), Christopher Katongo (Zambia), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon) and Younes Belhanda (Morocco).

Five players were shortlisted for Africa- based Player of the Year . The players in the running for Africa-based players are Mohamed Aboutreika (Egypt), Rainford Kalaba and Stoppila Sunzu (Zambia), Yannick N'Djeng (Cameroun) and Yousse Msakni of Tunisia.

The winners will be unveiled at a ceremony on 20 December in Accra, Ghana.

Coaches and technical directors from CAF member associations will vote to decide who wins the ultimate individual diadem on the continent. CAF will announce the top three in the last week of November.

Winners will be announced in the following categories as well. National team of the year, women's footballer of the year, women's national team of the year, club of the year, most promising talent of the year, coach of the year and referee of the year.

Other awards that will be given are Legend Award, Fair Play Award and Platinum Award.

Africa's finest XI will be announced as well.
