CBN to launch beach soccer challenge cup

THE Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Monday expressed its intention to develop and promote beach soccer in Nigeria through the launching of the CBN Beach Soccer Challenge Cup.

 The championship would be organised by Sports Solutions Limited, in collaboration with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as a prelude to the commencement of Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL).

According to a statement signed by Ademola Olajire, the media officer of the NFF, the three days would hold from November 30 to December 2 at the shores of Jabi Lake, Abuja.

According to the statement, players would be drawn from the country's financial sector to participate in the first-ever corporate beach soccer tournament in the country.

The statement also quoted the Chief Executive Officer of Sports Solutions Ltd, Abdullahi Abubakar, saying that the championship would be spiced with entertainment combining soccer, music and dance.

"The CBN Beach Soccer Cup will be more than just a thrilling sports competition. It will be a perfect cocktail of soccer, music and dance.

"It promises to be a very exciting tournament that would really boost productivity in the banking sector along with long-term growth that will strengthen the sector.

"Those attending will enjoy live soccer action, halftime cheerleaders' performance, a party atmosphere, live DJ and a chance to win many prizes,"he said.

Abubakar added that the firm intended to blaze a trail in the nation's grassroots sports development, to in a bid to make Nigeria a force to be reckoned with in world sports.

"Sports Solutions Ltd is leading the way for active participation of the private sector in the re-launch of Nigeria as a formidable force in the world of sports.

"We invite other corporate bodies to key into this paradigm shift," Abubakar said.
