Mercy Johnson to feature in Ice Prince '‘Aboki’ remix

Chocolate City rapper Iceprince Zamani, has announced a star-studded line-up for the remix of one of his hit songs, Aboki.

He tweeted on Tuesday night: “Aboki Remix!!! Zamani (Nig), Khuli Chana (SA), Mercy Johnson (Nig), Wizkid (Nig), MI (Nig), Sakordie (Ghana)!!”

The only surprise on the list, would be Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson, who recently delivered a baby girl in the US.

Well i know its a lie tho.

Oprah, Frank Ocean get GLAAD nominations

 Frank Ocean, Glee and Cloud Atlas are among this year's GLAAD Media Award nominations.

The annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation awards ceremony celebrates all aspects of the media - including film, music and television - for their "fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community".

This year's nominees include Tom Hanks-starring Cloud Atlas in the Outstanding Film category, competing against Emma Watson's The Perks of Being a Wallflower, ParaNorman, Dame Judi Dench's The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Your Sister's Sister.

Fire guts radio station in Minna

The Federal University of Technology (FUT Minna)’s radio station, Search FM, in Gida Magoro, was completely razed down by fire on Wednesday morning.

Property and equipment worth millions of Naira were destroyed by the fire.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Musibau Akanji revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

He further disclosed that school authority had commenced full investigation into the fire incident and efforts were on top gear to fix the damage caused by the inferno.

“The station will be back on air as soon as possible.” He promised.

The three-year-old radio station was awarded the best campus radio station at the Radio Nigeria Awards that held recently.

Ebisan ends a stellar year with an NMVA

Rising star Ebisan saw her career take a giant leap in 2012. She started the year strong with Love Story, her official debut single, creeping up the charts after making it on to the Top 50 for 2011 #BloggersEdition list and then releasing a very well received video in which she showcased her acting skills along side popular Nollywood actor, Joseph Benjamin.  She captivated us with her stirring performance, a good storyline and beautiful scenes.

Her second single Jowo was released in June and its brilliant video came shortly after. With them she shows off her wide vocal range and the fun, quirky side to her music and personality.  The video was shot by AK One in South Africa with her ONE Management team. It was ‘hard work but exciting, a fun learning experience’ she recalls. She also enjoyed meeting and working with South African artist and producers. Clearly at home in front of the camera, she demonstrates her versatility - as a talented singer, strong songwriter and budding actress. The song received major radio airplay and the video made BellaNaija's BN Music Friday Top 5: Videos of the Moment in July.

First Bank manager docked over N6m fraud

A 45-year-old bank manager, Ezekiel Nwanupo, who allegedly defrauded his bank of N6 million, was on Tuesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court.

Nwanupo, a resident of Oshodi area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Barth Nwakaoye, said that the accused and one other person at large conspired to commit the offence on May 5, 2012 at First Bank Nigeria Plc, Jibowu, Lagos.

He said that the accused used his position as bank manager of First Bank, Jibowu branch to defraud Mr Olumuyiwa Olaosun, who had his account domiciled at the branch.

Nwakaoye said that the accused obtained the money from the complainant's account, under the pretext that the money would be returned within two weeks.

He said that the amount was, however, not refunded to the customer’s account.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 319, 321 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State 2011.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Akintunde Isaac, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Feb. 20 for mention.

Kim, Kanye plan commitment ceremony

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are planning a commitment ceremony.

The reality TV star is hoping to tie the knot with her rapper boyfriend - with whom she is expecting her first child - in an unofficial beach front ceremony to celebrate their love in front of their close family and friends while she waits for her divorce from Kris Humphries to be finalised.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Kanye is very traditional. He'd have liked to marry Kim now they are having a baby. But with Kim still married to someone else, there is not much else he can do.

"It won't be official like a wedding because Kanye wants that to be extra special when the time comes.

"But they will still exchange rings - they just won't wear them on their wedding fingers."

Bin Laden film leads box office

Washington - Zero Dark Thirty, Hollywood's re-telling of the decade-long manhunt for Osama bin Laden, captured the No 1 spot on movie box office charts over the weekend with $24m in US and Canadian ticket sales.

The movie, starring Jessica Chastain as a dogged CIA agent, edged out horror movie spoof A Haunted House, which finished with $18.8m as well as Gangster Squad, a period crime drama that finished in third place with $16.7m from Friday through Sunday.

The weekend marked a strong start for Hollywood in 2013 after 2012's record-setting box office numbers.

FG to deploy troops to Mali - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan said that the Federal Government would deploy troops to the troubled region of Mali before next week to liberate the country from extremist invasion.

Jonathan made the disclosure at a cocktail function he hosted at the Presidential Villa for members of the Diplomatic Corps resident in the country.

"We are confronted presently with a situation in Mali. Let me assure you and the global community that as a nation, we will work with other nations to make sure that the problem in Mali is solved.

"Already, our technical team is already in Mali, so definitely, the Nigeria troops will be in Mali before next week.

"Of course, the ECOWAS, we are meeting this weekend and our expectation is that by next week most other ECOWAS countries that pledged troops, our men will be on ground to assist Mali to liberate the country.

Britney Spears calls off engagement, quits X-Factor

Los Angeles - Pop star Britney Spears on Friday called it quits with both fiancé Jason Trawick and as a celebrity judge on "The X Factor" talent show.

Spears, 31, and Trawick, 41 - her former agent - got engaged in December 2011.

"Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement," Spears said in a statement. "I'll always adore him and we will remain great friends."

The couple began dating in May 2010, following a turbulent few years in Spears' personal and professional life in which she lost custody of her children, entered rehab and shaved off her hair.

Trawick added in a statement: "As this chapter ends for us a new one begins. I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever."

Miss New York Mallory Hagan is crowned Miss America 2013

 A 23-year-old blonde from Brooklyn, N.Y., won the Miss America crown Saturday night after responding to a question about armed guards in schools, saying she opposed fighting violence with violence.

She defeated Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers, who took second, and Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton, who finished third.

She wins a $50,000 college scholarship and gets the crown for one year. Her platform, the issue she will promote during her reign, is fighting child sexual abuse. She said the issue is close to her heart because the women in her family themselves grappled with sexual abuse.

We need funds not phones, farmers tell FG

All Farmers Association of Nigeria in Delta State said phones do not appear on the list of priorities of an average Nigerian farmer.

He said, “What we need are funds not phones. We also need to see some sincerity in the people who are in the ministry of agriculture because they are fond of ‘cornering’ things meant for farmers for their personal use.

“If government really wants to help farmers, they should help us with better access to funds. Some of us need funds to set up our farms and others need funds to expand. Bank interest rates are too high; average farmers can’t get loans from banks. So, government should make sure we get these funds.”

Another Sad News: 30 die in Ogun pipeline explosion.

A pipeline explosion in the Arepo area of Ogun State killed about 30 people who went to siphon petroleum products from a ruptured Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipeline on Saturday.

It was learnt that the fire broke out after vandals started fighting over the oil. One of them was said to have fired a shot that that led to the explosion.

Sad News: Doctor, 27, murdered in Lagos traffic

A gunman operating on a motorcycle on Friday shot and killed a 27-year-old medical doctor, Irawo Adamolekun, at the Anthony Village end of Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

Irawo, who was driving in a black Sephia II Kia saloon car with Lagos number plate GP 388 AAA was shot at about 3:15pm in front of the traffic warden spot linking Access Road to Ikorodu Road.

It was learnt that the Ondo State indigene who had just left Osuntuyi Medical Centre, Obanikoro, where he works, was shot after he declined to part with valuables when the gunman attempted to rob him in traffic.

Eyewitnesses said the gunman who was wearing a three-quarter length short, shot the deceased at close range, mounted a waiting motorcycle on the other side of the road and fled the scene.

The deceased was taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service.
